Student Learning Outcomes: As a result of meeting the requirements in this course, students will be able to: Student Learning Outcome: Means of Assessment: 1. Understand the social, economic and moral forces that make the law. Students will discuss ethical and legal situations in the business world and research historical and moral underpinnings to specific legal issues. The students will also be required to apply legal concepts to resolve real cases in discussion posts Standard: At least 80% of all students will receive an average grade of “70” or better on the exams. Exams will be reviewed with students and concepts reinforced. Homework assignments will be required specifically addressing this course learning outcome. 2. Help students understand their legal rights and obligations when they are involved in business or personal legal situations day to day in their careers, Students will take examinations and submit projects during the course which will require them to show an understanding of the legal process. Students will be required to demonstrate their understanding with an emphasis being placed on legal and ethical concerns. 2 Standard: At least 80% of all students will receive an average grade of “70” or better on the projects. Projects will be reviewed with students and concepts reinforced. Homework assignments will be required specifically addressing this course learning outcome. (3 hours) Torts (elements of negligence and intentional) Ch 7. Common Law Contracts , contingencies, conditions Ch. 9. Discharge of obligations, and breach Ch.14. 3. (3 hours) Review & Exam #1 Real, Personal and Intellectual Property Ch. 8 plus handouts (differences, transfer requirements) 4. (3 hours) Property Continued, Leasehold and Freehold Interests, Leases, Assignments and Sublets 5. (3 hours) Review and Exam #2 6. (3 hours) Sales & Lease Contracts under the UCC Formation Performance Ch. 15 Warranties and Remedies Ch. 16 7. (3 hours) Secured Transactions & Bankruptcy Ch.19 8. (3 hours) Agency and Liability to 3rd Parties Ch. 18 9. (3 hours) Test 3 and Business Organizations Ch. 21 10. (3 hours) Sole Proprietorships, General Partnerships LLPs, LLC, LTD PTNSP 11. (3 hours) Insurance and Exam #4 Course Texts and/or Other Study Materials: Dynamic Business Law, Kubasek, current edition Grading Policy: Evaluation and Assessment: There will be four unit exams during the semester. Each will count 20% of your grade. Tests are non-cumulative. Class participation is based on attending class, contributing to discussions, and completing the assignments in a timely manner. All Unit Examinations must be taken in order to receive a grade. Make-Up examinations must be taken prior to the next class meeting. The make-up exam may not be the same exam taken by your class. You are allowed only one make-up exam. Please be advised that no extra credit assignments will be given. (See grading scale below) GRADING SCALE 100-90 89.75-100 A 90-80 87.75-89.50 B+ 90-80 80-87.50 B 80-70 77.75-79.9 C+ 80-70 70-77.50 C 70-60 60-69.9 D Below 60 Below 60 F 5 Attendance Policy: Attendance: Will be taken at each session and is subject to the rules of the college. Attendance at lectures is imperative to acquisition and understanding of the substantive material of the course. Habitual absence (considered more than two unexcused absences) and/or tardiness may result in loss of credit for the course. Students are instructed to notify the professor prior to absences, if known and are responsible for the materials from classes which are missed. Students are required to all examinations on the announced date or otherwise scheduled at the discretion of the instructor. All examinations must be completed for credit for the course Cell/Smart Phones: The use of cell/smart phones and other electronic devices is not permitted in class and all students must silence their cell phones prior to class session. Audio and video recording and photography is prohibited in class.
