HomeMy WebLinkAboutRAD-285Bergen Community College Division of Health Professions Department of Radiography RAD 285 –Radiography III Basic Information About Course Course Typically Offered:Fall Semester and Year:Fall,Year 2 Course and Section Number:RAD 285 Locations:HP-302 Course Description This course continues with the study of radiographic procedures,theory,and application of basic skull,advanced skull,an overview of the management and care of trauma,geriatric and pediatric patients.It also includes a study of contrast agents typically utilized and their respective radiographic examinations.This course includes a component of faculty guided independent study of medical terminology Credits –3 CR,Lecture [2.00],Laboratory [3.00] Prerequisites -RAD 281 Radiography II RAD 283 Summer Radiography Practicum Co Requisites -RAD 183 Radiographic Pathology RAD 286 Radiography Practicum III Student Learning Objectives:As a result of meeting the requirements in this course,students will be able to: 1.Prepare and position a patient according to standardized imaging procedures. 2.Identify and discuss any contra-indications or modifications for a procedure based on patient assessment. 3.Prepare a radiographic examination room,including the preparation of associated contrast media,based on the requested examination. 4.Educate a patient on the procedure being performed,including risks versus benefits of radiation. 5.Apply their knowledge of radiation safety to protect the patient and participating occupational workers. Means of Assessment Students in this course will: 1.Complete a midterm and final examination in class. 2.Demonstrate their understanding of material by participating in laboratory sessions and completing a laboratory practical at the end of the semester. 3.Complete short assignments and quizzes related to current topics. 4.Participate in discussion integrating positioning,imaging media,and technical considerations. Research,Writing,and/or Examination Requirement(s) Quizzes,Short Writing Assignments Students will be given short writing assignments or quizzes to complete.Timelines for completion will be determined by the course instructor. Midterm and Final The midterm and final will be objective,computerized tests that demonstrate the student’s ability to identify and apply course material.Students will be expected to evaluate various radiographic images and identify related course material. Grading Policy Recommended Grade Structure Written assignment and participation grading will be defined by the instructor.
