Home My WebLink AboutRAD-290Bergen Community College Division of Health Professions Department of Radiography RAD 290 –Advanced Radiography Practicum Basic Information About Course Course Typically Offered:Summer Semester and Year:Summer,Year 2 Course and Section Number:RAD 290 Locations:Clinical Off-Site Office:HP-308 Course Description The Senior Student Seminar involves the performance of routine,complex and advanced radiographic procedures under the supervision of a registered radiographer and college instructor in the radiography department.The students will spend twelve (12)weeks meeting the established requirements for a competency-based clinical education.The specialty elective rotations will continue.Upon completion of all required radiography core and clinical competency based requirements,the students are eligible to apply to the ARRT for the radiography certification examination. Credits –3 CR,Clinical [32.0] Prerequisites -RAD 182 Radiography Practicum I RAD 282 Radiography Practicum II RAD 283 Summer Radiography Practicum RAD 286 Radiography Practicum III RAD 289 Radiography Practicum IV Co Requisites - Student Learning Objectives:As a result of meeting the requirements in this course,students will be able to: 1.Perform and/or assist with radiographic procedures under direct supervision of a registered radiographer. 2.Perform independently in areas of successful clinical competency evaluations. 3.Demonstrate proper patient-radiographer communication skills. 4.Demonstrate the ability to safely manipulate hospital and radiographic equipment. 5.Apply their knowledge of radiation safety to protect the patient and participating occupational workers.Educate a patient on the procedure being performed,including risks versus benefits of radiation. Means of Assessment Students in this course will: 1.Complete six (6)clinical competencies. 2.Demonstrate their understanding of material by participating in five image evaluations. 3.A summative and formative assessment based on the student clinical profile and affective domain. 4.A comprehensive exit examination will be completed at the end of the semester prior to graduation. Course Content In this course,radiography students will continue their professional development in the clinical setting.RAD 290 Advanced Radiography Practicum requires students to spend 3 clinical days per week in the radiology department where students will perform routine,complex and advanced examinations under the direct supervision of a registered radiographer and a college instructor.Students will complete terminal competencies after finishing any remaining mandatory,elective,and continual competencies.Students expand their ability to critically think in the clinical setting.They will continue their rotations through imaging modalities and spend extended time in operating and fluoroscopic procedures.Students will also continue their comprehensive review for the ARRT registry examination.Successful completion of the course and exit examination will allow students to apply for the ARRT examination. Grading Policy Recommended Grade Structure Competency evaluations and profile forms are determined by the radiography program. Attendance Policy for this Course. For each clinical semester,students will be afforded one eight-hour (8)absence.Additional absences will result in the loss of two (2)points from the final grade. Arriving late and/or leaving early will result in the loss of one (1)point from the final grade. A doctor ’s note will validate an absence but does not excuse the absence.
