Credits –2 CR,Lecture [2.00] Prerequisites -Admission into program Co Requisites -RAD 181 Radiography I RAD 182 Radiography Practicum I Student Learning Objectives:As a result of meeting the requirements in this course,students will be able to: 1.Describe the role of a radiographer in an imaging department and as part of a healthcare team. 2.Identify,explain,and discuss fundamental medical,ethical,and legal issues that a radiographer can face. 3.Explain the role of a radiographer in preventing the spread of disease. 4.Educate a patient before a procedure on the risks and benefits of radiographic imaging. 5.Identify and describe the structure of a medical facility and its accreditors. Means of Assessment Students in this course will: 1.Complete two tests in addition to a midterm and final examination in class. 2.Demonstrate their understanding of material through discussion. 3.Participate in assigned readings and homework assignments designed to encourage critical thinking. Course Content Introduction to Radiography is an exploration of the basic aspects of the health care delivery system,and the radiography professions are studied.Specific topics related to patient care management include communication,medical law,ethical practice,vital signs,basic pharmacology,infection control;transfer techniques,medical equipment,HIPAA,and emergencies are addressed. Midterm and Final The midterm and final will be objective,computerized tests that demonstrate the student’s ability to identify and apply course material.Students will be expected to evaluate various scenarios and determine the appropriate response. Grading Policy Recommended Grade Structure Written assignment and participation grading will be defined by the instructor.
