Home My WebLink AboutRAD-289Bergen Community College Division of Health Professions Department of Radiography RAD 289 –Radiography Practicum IV Basic Information About Course Course Typically Offered:Spring Semester and Year:Spring,Year 2 Course and Section Number:RAD 289 Locations:Clinical Off-Site Office:HP-308 Course Description This course requires the performance of routine,complex,and advanced X-ray procedures under the supervision of a registered radiographer and a college clinical instructor in a radiology department.Students spend 24 hours per week for 15 weeks meeting the established requirements for competency based clinical education.Rotations into specialty areas and elective rotations are also begun. Credits –2 CR,Clinical [24.0] Prerequisites -RAD 276 Principles of Imaging Equipment RAD 285 Radiography III RAD 286 Radiography Practicum III Co Requisites -RAD 288 Radiography IV Student Learning Objectives:As a result of meeting the requirements in this course,students will be able to: 1.Perform and/or assist with radiographic procedures under direct supervision of a registered radiographer. 2.Perform independently in areas of successful clinical competency evaluations. 3.Demonstrate proper patient-radiographer communication skills. 4.Demonstrate the ability to safely manipulate hospital and radiographic equipment. 5.Apply their knowledge of radiation safety to protect the patient and participating occupational workers.Educate a patient on the procedure being performed,including risks versus benefits of radiation. Means of Assessment Students in this course will: 1.Complete sixteen (16)clinical competencies. 2.Demonstrate their understanding of material by participating in five image evaluations. 3.A summative and formative assessment based on the student clinical profile and affective domain. Course Content In this course,radiography students will continue their professional development in the clinical setting.RAD 289 Radiography Clinical IV requires students to spend 3 clinical days per week in the radiology department where students will perform routine,complex and advanced examinations under the direct supervision of a registered radiographer and a college instructor. Students are in the process of completing any remaining mandatory,elective,and continual procedures.Students expand their ability to critically think in the clinical setting.They will continue their rotations through imaging modalities and spend extended time in operating and fluoroscopic procedures.Procedures performed are evaluated on the basis of competency based clinical education system. Grading Policy Recommended Grade Structure Competency evaluations and profile forms are determined by the radiography program. Attendance Policy for this Course. For each clinical semester,students will be afforded one eight-hour (8)absence.Additional absences will result in the loss of two (2)points from the final grade. Arriving late and/or leaving early will result in the loss of one (1)point from the final grade. A doctor ’s note will validate an absence but does not excuse the absence.
