HomeMy WebLinkAboutRAD-282Bergen Community College Division of Health Professions Department of Radiography RAD 282 –Radiography Practicum II Basic Information About Course Course Typically Offered:Spring Semester and Year:Spring,Year 1 Course and Section Number:RAD 282 Locations:Clinical Off-Site Office:HP-308 Course Description This course requires students to spend two clinical days a week in a radiology department where students will perform routine as well as some complex examinations under the direct supervision of a registered radiographer and a college clinical instructor.Procedures performed are evaluated on the basis of a competency-based clinical education system. Credits –2 CR,Clinical [16.00] Prerequisites -RAD 182 Radiography Practicum I Co Requisites - Student Learning Objectives:As a result of meeting the requirements in this course,students will be able to: 1.Perform and/or assist with radiographic procedures under direct supervision of a registered radiographer. 2.Perform independently in areas of successful clinical competency evaluations. 3.Demonstrate proper patient-radiographer communication skills. 4.Demonstrate the ability to safely manipulate hospital and radiographic equipment. 5.Apply their knowledge of radiation safety to protect the patient and participating occupational workers.Educate a patient on the procedure being performed,including risks versus benefits of radiation. Means of Assessment Students in this course will: 1.Complete eight (8)clinical competencies. 2.Demonstrate their understanding of material by participating in five image evaluations. 3.A summative and formative assessment based on the student clinical profile and affective domain. Course Content In this course,radiography students will continue their professional development in the clinical setting.As the mastery of positioning occurs in the classroom,students apply their knowledge of positioning and safety to patient care.Students are expected to participate with a hands-on approach across multiple radiographic exams.Students will continue to build on their critical thinking skills and ability to evaluate requisitions. Grading Policy Recommended Grade Structure Competency evaluations and profile forms are determined by the radiography program. Attendance Policy for this Course. For each clinical semester,students will be afforded one eight-hour (8)absence.Additional absences will result in the loss of two (2)points from the final grade. Arriving late and/or leaving early will result in the loss of one (1)point from the final grade. A doctor ’s note will validate an absence but does not excuse the absence.
