Course Description:
MUA 241Piano III provides instruction in piano designed to develop the
student’s level of proficiency. The student attends one lesson per week. Lesson
times are arranged during the first week of classes. Pre-Requisite: MUA-240.
Course Objectives:
Piano III is designed for students who are motivated towards professional
musical careers as well as students who wish to play for personal development.
Piano I, II, III, and IV is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student
for further study in an upper-level institution of higher education. Students are
expected to become familiar with basic piano practice and performance
techniques, learn about pianistic musical style, be able to demonstrate
improvement in piano performance techniques and additional musical knowledge
at the end of each semester. The areas of expected improvement are listed under
Course Grades/Evaluation below. Specific music literature will be chosen by the
instructor taking into account the student’s ability and future goals.

Course Content:
Piano I, II, III, and IV is a sequence of courses designed to prepare the student
for further study in an upper-level institution of higher education. Students are
expected to achieve sufficient performance competency to enter a four-year music
institution at the third-year level. Students in MUA 242 will learn proper playing
position and playing techniques. Students will learn to play All major and minor
chords and scales, Common Transposition and to read early advanced musical
notation. Specific music literature will be chosen by the instructor taking into
account the student’s ability and future goals.
Course Texts and/or Other Study Materials:
All students are expected to furnish their own guitar (electric or acoustic), straps,
cables and picks. Repertoire will be instructor selected.
Research, Writing, and/or Examination Requirement(s):
Students are expected to practice the assigned material for at least thirty minutes
daily.
Grading Policy:
Three to four written performance evaluations will be given each semester. Other
evaluation methods will include oral questions and sight-reading performances.
Written evaluations are essential for the College record keeping purposes. A
midterm grade is strongly recommended. A final grade must be given.
Grades will be based on the following:

Attendance Policy:
All students are expected to attend every scheduled meeting of each course in
which they are registered. Attendance and lateness policies and sanctions are to
be determined by the instructor for each section of each course. These will be
established in writing on the individual course outline. Attendance will be kept by
the instructor for administrative and counseling purposes.
